Sem dinheiro, Liesa suspende ensaios técnicos do Sambódromo para o carnaval de 2018

Após 15 anos com ensaios abertos e entradas gratuitas, Liga agora depende de patrocínio de cerca 4 milhões para custear o evento.

Atenção, agremiações: podem guardar os instrumentos, cancelar os ônibus e providenciar menos camisetas. Por enquanto, nada de ensaio técnico antes do carnaval.

Sem patrocinadores que possam custear as despesas que giram em torno de R$ 4 milhões, a Liga Independente das Escolas de Samba do Rio de Janeiro (Liesa) suspendeu os ensaios técnicos para o carnaval de 2018 no Sambódromo, no Centro do Rio. O presidente da Liga, Jorge Castanheira, foi enfático: “não temos dinheiro”.

Os ensaios técnicos acontecem há quinze anos, um mês antes dos desfiles, sempre com entrada gratuita para o público. É o momento em que as escolas acertam os últimos detalhes para desfilar e é também a única oportunidade que boa parte da população humilde e amante do samba tem de ver as agremiações pisarem na Avenida, uma vez que não possuem condições de bancar os altos preços dos ingressos para o espetáculo. Segundo Castanheira, os ensaios técnicos custam entre R$ 3,5 milhões e R$ 4 milhões à Liesa, que precisa contratar empresas de segurança e limpeza, carros de som, além de instalar roletas para controlar o acesso às arquibancadas.

“Por mais de 15 anos a Liesa bancou os ensaios sozinha. Mas este ano, a Liga não tem dinheiro. Nosso orçamento está achatado. Por isso, estamos priorizando os desfiles. Há seis anos não há aumento de ingressos, houve um corte de 50% no subsídio às escolas. A Prefeitura garantiu R$ 1 milhão para cada escola e está com dificuldades para obter com a iniciativa privada mais R$ 500 mil. Ainda estamos aguardando o pagamento das parcelas do subsídio”, disse o presidente.

Castanheira afirmou também que não tem como pedir ajuda à Riotur, mas que está buscando patrocínio através da Lei Rouanet para a realização dos ensaios técnicos, até agora sem sucesso. “É uma pena deixar de fazer os ensaios técnicos. Se a gente conseguir patrocinadores a tempo, até dezembro, por exemplo, os ensaios podem acontecer. Continuamos buscando. Nossa prioridade é o desfile. Mesmo com todas as dificuldades que a Liesa e as escolas estão passando estamos trabalhando para fazer um carnaval bonito e de qualidade”, afirmou o mandatário.

Attention: The league of samba schools is allowed to keep its instruments, call off transportation and turn out less t-shirts, but for the time being, technical rehearsals before carnival has started aren’t allowed.

The technical rehearsals have taken place for 15 years, always in the month before the main parade event, with free admission for the public. It’s a warm-up activitivy in order to have all set to the main parade event and also the only chance for low-income families that love samba to attend and watch a performance, once that it would be impossible to acquire those expensive tickets to get into the show.

According to Castanheira, the technical rehearsals cost in average R$ 3,5 or R$ 4 million reais to Liesa. The league needs to hire companies to guarantee security, cleaning people, a sound-equipped car, besides the need of installing turnstiles to control the bleachers access.

For 15 years now, Liesa has maintained the costs on its own, but this year the money is gone. “We’re on a tight budget, that’s why are giving priority to the main parade event.”
The price of the tickets hasn’t gone up for 6 years, moreover it’s suffered a reduction in costs of 50% percent.
The City Hall has guaranteed R$1 million reais for each individual samba school association and also has struggled to receive five hundred thousand more from the private initiative. “We’re still waiting for the installments from the subsidies” said the president.

Castanheira also mentioned that there is no way to turn to Riotur, although they are searching for subsidies approved under the Rouanet Law aiming at the technical rehearsals accomplishment, despite all the lack of success yet. “It’s a pitty not to have the technical rehearsals. If we only could get some sponsorship in time, till December for instance, we could have the rehearsals happening, we keep on trying, our priority is the main parade.”
